The Doctor's Waiting Room

"The Doctor is not yet here,"
The nurse said.
"This is the waiting room, so please wait."

The essential thing now is,
What to do while you wait?
There are books and magazines
The Doctor sure like to make people wait!

Do you start to read, or at least glance to see?
Or do you flirt with the chick over there,
and think about getting laid?

Do you think of your lover, and wonder where she is?
Or do you think of your mother
and what she cooked for dinner?

Perhaps you think of the kids,
How they've grown
or perhaps the recent tuition hike?

Or, do you think of the boss,
The business, and how good or bad it's become?
Or, do you go to the snack bar
(oh yes, there is one)
And gorge yourself till the Doctor's come?

Or, do you stand in front of the mirror
and observe how large your biceps have become?

Perhaps, you just wait
Wait with a blank mind?
Do you get pissed at waiting
Cursing at anyone and everyone,
Cursing the Doctor?

What do you do when you wait,
wait for the Doctor to come?

Life As A Lighted Cigarette

Life as a lighted cigarette on an ashtray
Left to burn to ashes
or be put out by the wind
Left to be lighted, then forgotten
Or be lighted and consumed greedily
Or to burn steadily, consuming itself
Or be consumed steadily
and be left to burn all the same

Some are lighted easily, and put out just as quick
Some are just tasted, then thrown at a whim
Some lighted at the wrong end
Then thrown away with hate
Some don't get lighted at all.

Yet they all end up as ashes
or cigarette butts as waste
Consume and are consumed
Then thrown away

For most of us,
life is a lighted cigarette on an ashtray
And we all end up the same
